Gérard de Vuippens

Definition
Gérard de Vuippens was the bishop of Basel from 1310 until his death on 17 March 1325. Gerhard was appointed already in 1309 by pope Clemens V, but the chathedral chapter of basel elected Lüthold II. von Rötteln as bishop. This election was not tolerated by the pope and harsh penalties were waived against Lüthold and the cathedral chapter of Basel. First signs of obedience by the cathedral chapter of basel were documented at the end of 1310, it is thus assumed that Gerhard could start to fulfill his duties as bishop at this time.
