Caria (/ˈkɛəriə/; from Greek: Καρία, Karia, Turkish: Karya) was a region of western Anatolia extending along the coast from
mid-Ionia (Mycale) south to Lycia and east to Phrygia. It was ruled as an Achaemenid satrapy in the 4th century BC by the
Hecatomnid dynasty, and subsequently controlled by a number of strategoi under Alexander and his early successors.
