- The Ashmolean is the University of Oxford’s museum of art and archaeology, founded in 1683. The Numismatic collections are
kept in the Heberden Coin Room, which houses a systematic and comprehensive collection of some three hundred thousand coins
and medals with particular strengths in the fields of Greek, Roman, Celtic, Byzantine, Medieval, Islamic, Indian, and Chinese
coinages. It also holds collections of paper money, tokens, jetons, and commemorative and art medals.
