Das Kunstmuseum Moritzburg Halle (Saale) wurde im Jahr 1885 als städtisches Museum für Kunst und Kunstgewerbe gegründet. Es
befindet sich seit 1904 in der zwischen 1484 und 1503 als „festes Schloss“ errichteten erzbischöflich-magdeburgischen Residenz
Moritzburg. Das Landeskunstmuseum verfügt über Sammlungen für Malerei, Plastik, Grafik, Fotografie, Kunsthandwerk und Design
sowie das Landesmünzkabinett Sachsen-Anhalt mit insgesamt etwa 250.000 Kunstwerken. Das Kunstmuseum des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt
präsentiert in seinen Ausstellungen Werke aus den eigenen Sammlungen vom Mittelalter bis in die Gegenwart. Im Fokus steht
die deutsche Kunst im 20. Jahrhundert. Den Grundstock der numismatischen Sammlung bilden neben bereits nach 1900 erfolgten
Ankäufen von zeitgenössischen Medaillen vor allem die 1910 und 1923 erfolgten Stiftungen von Amtsgerichtsrat Buchholz und
Kaufmann Heynemann. Im Jahr 1950 wurde mit diesen Beständen programmatisch das „Landesmünzkabinett Sachsen-Anhalt“ begründet,
dem damals auch die Pflege der einheimischen Münzschätze und die wissenschaftliche Beratung für die Museen des Landes übertragen
war. Das Kabinett verfügt inzwischen über einen Bestand von etwa 120.000 Münzen, Medaillen und Geldscheinen. Inhaltliche Schwerpunkte
bilden die mittelalterlichen und die neuzeitlichen Prägungen der mitteldeutschen Länder, die moderne deutsche Medaillenkunst
und das Papiergeld des 20. Jahrhunderts. Die Universalsammlung umfasst Objekte von der Antike bis in die Gegenwart aus allen
Kontinenten und Kulturen.

The Moritzburg Art Museum Halle (Saale) was founded 1885 and is located in the Moritzburg, a castle of the early 16th century.
The spectacular extension (opened in 2008) in the once ruined west and north wings becomes visible only at second glance and
particularly in the exhibition rooms themselves. The art museum of the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt shows works from its
own collections, predominantly from the Middle Ages to the baroque period, classical modernism, which forms the main focus,
and the contemporary period. The collections of paintings ans sculptures, graphics an fotography, arts and crafts design and
of the state coin collection include around 250,000 objects. The foundations of the numismatic collection are, in addition
to acquisitions of contemporary medals made after 1900, above all the foundations of district court counsel Buchholz and merchant
Heynemann made in 1910 and 1923. In 1950, the „State Coin Collection of Saxony-Anhalt“ was founded programmatically with these
stocks, which at that time also the care of the local coin hoards and the scientific advice for the museums of the country
