The House of Supplinburg (named after the castle Süpplingenburg in the district of Helmstedt, Lower Saxony) is the name of
the family of the Roman-German king and emperor Lothar III. In the 11th century, representatives of the family held the bishopric
of Helmstedt as well as various counties in Saxony (including Harzgau, Derlingau) before Lothar first became Duke of Saxony,
then Roman-German king.
