The House of Scarpone was the family of the Counts of Pfirt (French: Ferrette), Lützelburg (Lutzelbourg), Mömpelgard (Montbéliard)
and the Counts and later Dukes of Bar (Bar-le-Duc). The family takes its name from its origins in the Scarponnois in the present-day
French département of Meurthe-et-Moselle. As Pfirt is located in the Sundgau, the family used to be called counts of Sundgau
too, although they never held this title.
