The noble family of Fenis. The ancestral seat was originally the castle of the same name, situated between Ins and Vinelz
(= Fenis). In 1117, the castle was destroyed by an earthquake. The family provided barons and counts as well as bishops. Among
others, the counts of Neuchâtel and bishops of Lausanne and Basel.
