Schönau, also Schoenau, is the name of an old Alsatian noble family with a parent house of the same name on the Rhine, east
of Sélestat which settled in the southern Black Forest in the 14th century and founded the Schönau-Wehr, Schönau-Zell, Schönau-Schwörstadt
and Schönau-Oeschgen lines there. The Schönau-Wehr lineage still exists today.
